One thing is sure, when our customers travels with us they are completely in safe hands. Our drivers are experienced drivers with more than decade of experience in taxi driving. They all have been driving wheelchair taxi for long time. All of our drivers are accredited and passed a test to driver wheelchair taxi.
Safety in a wheelchair accessible taxi comes down to a few specific things, not a general promise. Our drivers hold the accreditation required to operate wheelchair accessible vehicles in Victoria, which covers correct use of ramps and hoists, safe wheelchair restraint, and how to assist a passenger transferring in and out of the vehicle without strain or injury to either party.
Every vehicle in our fleet has four point wheelchair restraints rated for transport, along with a separate lap and shoulder belt for the passenger. The wheelchair itself is not enough to keep someone safe in a moving vehicle, it needs to be locked to the vehicle floor independently of the passenger’s own seatbelt. Our drivers check both before moving off, and check again if the wheelchair shifts during the trip or before a long stretch of highway driving.
Ramps and hoists are inspected as part of routine vehicle maintenance, not just when something visibly goes wrong. A ramp that’s slightly out of alignment or a hoist with a slow response can turn a routine pickup into a hazard, so we treat this equipment with the same seriousness as the vehicle’s brakes or tyres.
Driver conduct matters here too. Our drivers are trained to ask before touching a passenger’s wheelchair or assisting with a transfer, rather than grabbing and pushing without warning. Some passengers can transfer independently and just need the ramp down and space to move, others need physical assistance, and the driver’s job is to read which situation applies rather than assume.
We also carry appropriate insurance for passenger transport, and our vehicles meet the roadworthy and accessibility standards required to operate as wheelchair accessible taxis in Victoria. None of this is unusual for a properly run service, but it’s worth stating plainly rather than leaving customers to assume it. You can see the full range of vehicles and services we run on our wheelchair taxi services page.
If you have specific safety questions before booking, particularly around a heavier powered wheelchair or scooter, a specific medical condition, or a transfer that needs two people, call us on 0432 712 248 and we’ll talk through it before the day of travel rather than working it out at the curb.
